Scaling Mount Everest with the uvision variotronic

Peaking at an altitude of 8,848 meters, Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain. As such, it holds a magnetic attraction for climbers around the globe – including Angela Beltrame-Zill and her husband Olaf Zill. When the mountaineering couple succumbed to the giant’s siren call, they chose the new uvex uvision variotronic ski goggles to accompany them every step of the way.

Perfectly protected with the ski goggle uvision variotronic

Having the right equipment is especially important when embarking upon extreme adventures like this one. Eyes, in particular, require special protection at high altitudes and in ice and snow – without clear, undistorted vision, any expedition becomes an incalculable risk. The uvision variotronic ski goggles worn by the two climbers ensured they were perfectly protected at all times, and optimally equipped for all conceivable light and weather conditions. The ski goggles´ variotronic technology means the lens tint can be regulated quite simply at the touch of a button – within a split second.

Nearly to to top of the world

Opting to ascend without oxygen containers, the couple very nearly made it to the top of the world. But shortly before they reached the summit, the weather closed in, foiling their attempt and forcing them to turn back. Having since come to terms with her disappointment, 41-year-old Angela is still determined that, some day, she’ll climb the world’s highest mountain again – and when she does, she’ll get right to the top!

Who is Angela Beltrame Zill?

By profession a pilot with charter airline Edelweiss Air, Ms. Beltrame-Zill grew up in Oetwil in Switzerland. She was introduced to mountaineering by husband Olaf, whom she met at Everest Base Camp in 2001. Since then, the couple have planned all their major expeditions together and have already conquered various mountains topping six, seven and eight thousand meters. In 2004, they reached the 8,201-meter summit of Cho Oyu, the sixth-highest mountain in the world – again without bottled oxygen.

You can read a detailed interview with Angela, in which she speaks about her love of mountaineering and her fascination with the sport, in the Schweizer Tagesanzeiger newspaper.
